I bought this planter because I needed something very large and attractive to hold a cherry bush. The size of the planter is perfect, but the construction is not good. As another review noted, The bands around the barrel are loose. I understand and accept that the wood will expand and tighten once the planter is filled with soil. However, the bands are not attached to the wood very well--just a few staples. So the bands do not look like they will stay secure over time.

Furthermore, the wood used in the planter is cheap. It's very rough (unsanded) and is splintering in many places. In fact, when the barrel arrived, two large pieces and several smaller pieces had broken off. Other similarly large pieces are threatening to come off. Part of the damage may have been due to poor packaging. The planter came in just a plastic bag and was probably knocked around a bit during shipping.

The planter looks okay from a distance, so unless it completely falls apart, it will look good on a deck or patio.

I would not recommend purchasing this planter.

I ordered this planter and am satisfied. It's really just what I expected. It looks better than the picture. It is in perfect condition. I just ordered another one. After reading the one review, I hope the second planter is just as good as the first.

I bought two of these and am sending them both back. The wire around the planter is too loose and the boards gape. Not just a little bit, but enough that dirt would fall out. They are very cheaply put together.
